Often People talk of choosing a driving instructor whose personality suits yours. After having had three different driving instructors I have come to the firm conclusion that anyone can attempt to teach any given thing in life. If their approach suits you you are on to a winner, but to teach something well and to anyone is a gift. It is a rare and commendable talent to be able to look at an individual and assess how they best learn and adapt a teaching style and tailor their lessons to best suit them to learn, but this is Darren. This approach takes true compassion and enjoyment for what you do to execute this successfully and is only present in someone whose sole aim is not to take your money for as many lessons as possible and to teach you to just pass your test. My first test I took with my second instructor and despite his best intentions his driving style had destroyed my confidence and it was in this state that I first started lessons with Darren. I had explained to the driving school that I needed an instructor who's style was best suited to improving my confidence and thankfully I was assigned Darren, but frankly I honestly believe any person would benefit from an instructor such as Darren. We were both aware that on test day my nerves were more than capable of sabotaging my success, but thanks to Darren's teaching, midway through me making a hash job of my manouevre, I remembered the practical lesson when he taught me the real purpose of the practical test components by showing me the worst ever reverse round the bend, but how it was still a pass. So instead of giving up mid manouevre, I trusted my judgement, took a deep breath and trusted my skills to recover the manouevre better than even I thought I was capable to do. Then, instead of loosing confidence after the manouevre (which I had been doing previously,) I picked myself up and carried on. I honestly didn't believe I would have passed my test second time around, hence booking it when i did was Darren's idea. I could have happily paid out for far more lessons, but Darren told me I didn't need any longer. I was convinced my nerves would get the better of me, but it's all thanks to Darren that I did pass and without having anymore lessons, which was just me trying to avoid having to take my test. Unlike a lot of teachers, he does his best to try to keep your lesson times. He's punctual and when he's not it's not excessive and you don't lose your time, he also lets you know if he's running late ahead of time. His relaxed attitude and nature is helpful if you are someone who needs to relax or build your confidence, but most importantly Darren is a teacher who will tailor your lessons to help address the issues you have with your driving to make you a good driver, not just a qualified one. Thank you so much for your help Darren and my son thanks you too, because it now means we have far more freedom as a family.
